The Cliffhanger Restaurant is ideally located for a mid-afternoon stop in for tea and cake. On misty and sunny mornings alike, the sea view and the Isle of Wight’s Needles are a lovely backdrop for conversation.
The perfect pairing to accompany such an outing is one of our delicious cakes or squares. They range from traditional favourites, like the delicate Victoria Sponge, to our chef’s newly minted vegan Oreo brownie. All of which goes down nicely with a cup of loose-leaf tea.
With something for everyone by way of cakes and pastries, Cliffhanger delights in sourcing some of our customer's favourites from our very own community.
Ms. B is the master-baker behind the Victoria Sponge and specialty shortbreads. She has been with us for over 20 years, dating back to our time at the Tearooms, and continues to bake up some of the restaurants greatest hits.
On a Monday morning, she can be seen gliding into the restaurant with a fresh sponge and a smile. Her vibrant hair is hard to miss, and she has become an integral part of the Cliffhanger family.
Throughout the week we replenish the pastry cases where needed, and Ms. B has always been a key part of ensuring a full stock for our loyal customers.
Supporting locally is something of second nature to us now, with Ms. B’s involvement and other local bakeries providing us with their very own desserts and goodies.
Belgian Buns, Gluten-Free Lemon Cake, the Classic Dorset Apple, and millionaire shortbread are among those specialty desserts that make an afternoon that much better.
Another great classic and a sure winner with many loyal and new customers is our Dorset Cream Tea. With either a tea or coffee you can enjoy two scones, adorned with jam and clotted cream.
So next time you’re in the area be sure to stop in for a sweet treat and take a break from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the view.
